Supporting Breakups, Rejection, and Heartbreak
April 16, 2026 @ 10:00am (1.5 -hours)
Link to recording: https://us02web.zoom.us/rec/
Passcode: 1#VA0b#u
About the Course:
Romantic relationships are a meaningful part of life—and so are the painful experiences that sometimes come with them. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience break-ups, rejection, and heartbreak just as deeply as anyone else, yet they are often denied the emotional support, language, and space to process these losses. Professionals may feel unsure how to respond, tempted to minimize the experience, or focused solely on behavior rather than the underlying grief.
This 90-minute interactive workshop equips professionals with the knowledge, language, and practical tools needed to support people with IDD through relationship loss in respectful, affirming, and emotionally healthy ways.
Participants will explore common myths and ableist assumptions about romance and emotional pain, learn how heartbreak may show up as behavior, withdrawal, or dysregulation, and practice strategies for responding with empathy rather than control. The training emphasizes emotional validation, cognitive accessibility, and trauma-informed support, while honoring autonomy and the right to grieve.
Participants will learn how to:
- Understand break-ups and rejection as legitimate losses that deserve support—not avoidance or punishment
- Recognize how grief and heartbreak may be expressed differently by people with IDD
- Respond to intense emotions without minimizing, rushing “closure,” or discouraging future relationships
- Set appropriate boundaries while still honoring feelings, autonomy, and dignity
- Support healing, resilience, and readiness for future relationships

Link to attend: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81574269547
About the Course:
In today’s workplace, technical expertise alone is not enough. Research consistently shows that the strongest predictor of individual and team success is not technical proficiency, but the effective use of soft skills. From Google’s Project Aristotle to contemporary workplace engagement data, the evidence is clear: communication, psychological safety, emotional intelligence, and shared purpose drive performance.
In this engaging, research-informed session, Dr. Murry Streetman explores how soft skills create the enabling conditions for high-performing teams. Drawing from leadership theory, organizational research, and real-world experience, participants will learn how to leverage soft skills to energize, orient, and engage their teams—leading to healthier workplaces and stronger outcomes.
-
Define and develop critical soft skills
-
Foster psychological safety and networked communication
-
Create compelling direction that drives collective action
-
Strengthen accountability and team cohesion
There is nothing “soft” about exercising soft skills. Modeling them is hard work—but they can be learned, practiced, and refined. This session equips leaders and teams with the tools to do exactly that.
