Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Team Leader for their day services division.  JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  We focus on individuals’ abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community.  We aspire to build a community that promotes, supports, and embraces people of all abilities.  The Day Service Team Leader is responsible for coordinating and supervising the delivery of high quality day service programming. First review of applicant materials will begin August 24, 2022.  The Team Leader’s responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership to Direct Support Professionals and Senior Direct Support Professionals in the area of day service programming; Develop goals and supports that are individualized and reflect the abilities and preferences of those supported; Review plans to ensure the quality of goals, supports, and scenarios, modifying as necessary with addendums; Review data collection processes to ensure that data is being tracked in an accurate and timely manner; Periodically attend Action Plan, BASIS, and Transition Meetings; Interact and communicate with families, Guardians, Case Managers, and others with a vested interest to ensure information is shared as needed, and in a timely manner.
  • Supervise Direct Support Professionals and Senior Direct Support Professionals: Interview, hire, and recommend disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment; Provide on-going coaching to promote continuous improvement; Conduct performance appraisals and make pay-related recommendations; Assign tasks, train on task performance, schedule work, review work, and instruct in methods or procedures needed to carry out the job; Develop staffing schedules and monitor staffing levels to ensure that ratios are sufficient to meet the health/safety and programmatic needs of persons served; Review, approve, and submit staff timecards by designated due date.
  • Quality Assurance for service delivery: Conduct team meetings; Monitor requests (maintenance, transportation, IT, AT, etc.) and complete any follow up as necessary in a timely manner; Ensure that health and safety remains a priority for the program by monitoring required training to ensure that all staff remain current and approaching potential issues in a proactive manner that minimizes risks, such as medical errors, ANE, injuries, and health issues; When necessary, this might include covering for staff and completing responsibilities.
  • Engage in Program Development: Continuously review the services provided in the specific program area(s) of responsibility, to ensure that they are consistent with best practices in the field and meet all regulatory and accreditation requirements; Provide leadership to develop staff expertise within the program area(s); Collaborate with other organizations within the local community and across the state on providing quality services to adults with I/DD; Promote community integration by collaborating with other organizations that provide opportunities to interact and engage with adults without I/DD; Consistently seek out ideas and feedback from the team; Set high expectations that promotes continuous improvement and builds on the strengths of each employee.
Job Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.  Three years experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities/developmental disabilities or other vulnerable population is required.  Must be able to successfully complete JCDS training (Medication Administration, CPR, First Aid, MANDT, ANE, etc.) in order to maintain required certifications.

A Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field is preferred.  One year of supervisory experience is also preferred.

Experience can substitute for education and education can substitute for experience.

Candidate must be able to successfully complete criminal and motor vehicle background screenings, which includes KDADS required screenings and registry checks, and a post offer physical Essential Function test and TB test.

This position may require the use of a personal vehicle to transport clients.  A valid driver’s license and good driving required are required.
