Position Summary
The Residential Direct Support Professional II is responsible for providing quality support services to individuals with disabilities and helping them to achieve their personal goals. Supports are provided in accordance with person-centered support planning, licensing standards, and individual choice.
Essential Job Duties
- Support individuals in maintaining their home environment in a safe and healthy manner
- Foster community engagement and relationships through meaningful social activities that enhance life skills
- Assist individuals with personal care, hygiene, and health maintenance
- Assist individuals with shopping and budgeting and maintain accurate financial records
- Administer medications and execute delegated nursing tasks competently
- Safely provide transportation and operate specialized equipment when needed
- Complete documentation and comply with licensing standards, company policies, and procedures
- Provide input into the person-centered support planning process, including attending meetings
- Protect and promote the rights, dignity, health, safety, and opportunity for choice for individuals served
- Demonstrate zero tolerance for abusive, neglectful, and exploitative acts and report suspected incidents according to company policies and procedures
- Adhere to the agreed-upon work schedule, report for work punctually, and ensure that absences do not adversely affect the timely completion of responsibilities or unduly burden co-workers
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred
- Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to Cottonwood, Inc. insurance carrier
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to complete basic household tasks including menu planning, cooking, shopping, housekeeping, and reporting maintenance issues
- Basic computer skills including data entry and email access
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to interact positively and professionally with individuals, family members, community members, agency staff, and supervisors
- Ability to manage challenging behaviors and provide crisis intervention when necessary
- Patience, compassion, and empathy when working with individuals with disabilities
- Adaptability and problem-solving skills
Physical Demands
- Must be able to assist individuals with mobility issues, including lifting, transferring, and assisting in the event of emergency evacuation
- Must be able to assist individuals with activities of daily livin,g including personal care
- Frequently expected to move and engage in physical task,s including lifting, bending, and kneeling
- Occasionally required to lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to intervene in the event of a physical conflict
Work Environment
The work environment involves both indoor and outdoor settings, with regular interaction with individuals with
disabilities. Noise levels may vary depending on the activities being conducted.
Supervisory Responsibility
The position has no supervisory responsibilities.
