Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Health Supports Specialist (LPN). JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We focus on individuals’ abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community. Health Supports Specialists are responsible for providing clinical care and guidance for individuals supported by JCDS. This position will be open until filled.
Johnson County Developmental Supports offers a $4,000 sign-on bonus and a retention bonus.
Responsibilities include:
Collects and documents medical history; measures and records vital signs; gathers, evaluates, and reports information regarding patient behaviors, complaints, or symptoms; obtains, processes, and handles lab specimens; administers medications to include preparing and giving injections; performs minor procedures and treatments and should have experience with PEG tubes, Ostomies, catheters, etc.
- Responding to and advising direct care providers with health-related concerns regarding individuals supported.
- Assessing individuals for injury and illness, referring to a higher level of care when needed and ensuring follow-up is completed.
- Reporting information regarding complaints, or symptoms to the individual’s PCP.
- Obtaining, processing, and handling lab specimens.
- Administering medications to include preparing and giving injections.
- Performing minor procedures and treatments; should have experience with PEG tubes, ostomies, and catheters.
- Provides individuals and families with supportive resources; educates individuals and direct care staff in areas impacting the individual’s health, wellness, and daily living activities.
- Assists in providing specialized health training and education to staff.
- Transports and accompanies individuals to medical appointments, urgent care or ER visits as needed.
- Updates electronic health record and helps to manage the EMAR.
Schedule varies, may need to flex hours at times for appointments. Will also include some paid on-call time.
A high school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Practical Nursing program are required. Kansas Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Registered Nurse (RN) license is required. A valid driver’s license and good driving record are also required.
One year of nursing experience required. Experience in the IDD field is preferred.
Must demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
This position requires performance of various physical components at defined standards for the safety of employees and individuals served.
Candidate must be able to successfully complete criminal and motor vehicle background screenings, which includes KDADS required screenings and registry checks, and a post offer TB test.
