Brown County Developmental Services, Inc. (BCDS) is a non-profit organization licensed by Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services to serve adults with intellectual disabilities (I/DD) in Brown county (northeast Kansas). BCDS is also the Community Developmental Disability Organization for Brown and Doniphan counties. The nine member Board of Directors is seeking applicants to replace the Executive Director who will be retiring December 31, 2022.
The Executive Director is responsible for oversight of both vocational (day program and supported employment), residential, and case management services to approximately 40 adults with a staff of 50 employees (full time and part time) and a budget of $2.6 million. The day program includes oversight of of the BCDS Thriftshop where people with I/DD are paid to prepare and sell donated items in the store. Sales from the Thriftshop topped $190,000 in 2021 and serve as the paycheck for people in services who do not have community jobs. Owned facilities/vehicles include: office, day program buildings, two apartment complexes, and ten vehicles. The agency has no debt and has been in existence since 1968.
The Board is seeking applicants who wish to continue the mission of the agency which is “Expanding Horizons for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities”. Experience with I/DD services and a Bachelor’s degree are required. Experience in a management position in a human service field where duties include knowledge of I/DD licensing standards, or HCBS waiver funding and regulations, or financial oversight of an agency’s funds is preferred.
Salary will be based on experience and qualifications and is negotiable. Benefits include health/life/dental insurance (responsible for 15% of cost), retirement plan with match up to 3%, Section 125 plan, paid time off, and AFLAC supplemental insurance options.
