About the Course:
This engaging webinar equips Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) with the tools and strategies to create inclusive fitness opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Participants will learn the principles of adaptive fitness, discover practical techniques to overcome barriers, and explore ways to build confidence and independence in their clients. With interactive discussions, real-life examples, and Special Olympics resources, this session empowers DSPs to foster healthier, more active lifestyles while ensuring safety and fun.
About the Presenter:
Erin McDaniel, B.A.P.H., CTTS
Erin McDaniel is a Public Health professional who graduated with high honors from Lindenwood University in 2019, earning a major in Public Health and minors in Nonprofit Administration and Nutrition. While at Lindenwood, Erin helped found the Public Health Club, was part of the first graduating Public Health class, and represented her department at the National Public Health Scholar Bowl, where her team placed 2nd in the nation. Her passion for health and fitness led her to organize the inaugural Workplace Wellness Summit with Community Strong in Saint Charles, Missouri, where she conducted research on workplace health and solutions for improving employee well-being. Since January 2022, Erin has been the Health and Fitness Manager at Special Olympics Kansas (SOKS), where she has contributed to groundbreaking research on individuals with intellectual disabilities and has presented nationally acclaimed programs at the CDC, Rails to Trails Conservancy, and more. She advocates for the rights of individuals with intellectual disabilities, working to break down barriers and improve health outcomes. Erin is a founding member of the Kansas City Alliance for Physical Activity in Down Syndrome and other Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
The link for live courses is shared with those members who have registered for the 2025 Virtual Training Package and cannot be accessed from the main website. The 2025 InterHab Virtual Training Package features 2-3 live courses per month from January to September. These training sessions will be recorded and available to those registered.
