DESCRIPTION:About the Course:This presentation will cover risk factors and warning signs of suicidal individuals. The language to use with suicidal individuals as well as when speaking about those who have died by suicide will also be discussed. The Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) is introduced as a tool to use to help when assessing someone for suicidal ideation. Lastly\, participants will explore potential protective factors and interventions to utilize with those who are struggling with suicidal ideation.\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nAbout the Presenter: \nDabria VanGieson is a Licensed Clinical Marital and Family Therapist as well as a Registered Play Therapist. She has been in mental health for almost 20 years. Dabria spent 10 years working in various residential settings (YRC2\, PRTF) with children and teens with significant mental health and behavioral struggles. She is currently employed with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office in Wichita\, KS as the Agency Therapist. She provides therapeutic services to any employee of SGSO and their family members. With longer life expectancy comes many of the challenges we all face as we age. This presentation covers topics related by IDD self-advocates and supporters that are concerns as people with IDD age.\n\nAbout the Presenter:  \nDr. Craig Escudé is a board-certified Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians\, the American Academy of Developmental Medicine\, and the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. He is also the President of IntellectAbility. He has more than 20 years of clinical experience providing medical care for people with IDD and complex medical and mental health conditions serving as medical director of Hudspeth Regional Center in Mississippi for most of that time. While there\, he founded DETECT\, the Developmental Evaluation\, Training\, and Educational Consultative Team of Mississippi. He is the author of “Clinical Pearls in IDD Healthcare” and developer of the “Curriculum in IDD Healthcare\,” an eLearning course used to train clinicians on the fundamentals of healthcare for people with IDD.
